PARIS Harold Landry Titans Jersey , May 13 (Xinhua) -- A French journalist was assassinated in the Central African Republic (CAR), French President Francois Hollande said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The corpse of (Camille) Lepage was found after a patrol by (French) Sangaris troops stopped a car driven by anti-balaka groups, in the Bouar region," the statement released by the presidential office said.
"Everything will be done to know the circumstances of this assassination and to track down who murdered our compatriot," it added.
Since the start of Sangaris operation in December 2013, three French servicemen were killed in the poorest African country that was hit by a long political unrest.
Media reports said there has been an escalation in fighting recently as mainly Christian militias, known as the anti-Balaka (meaning anti-machete) movement, are now targeting Muslim communities in the CAR capital of Bangui, and in the west of the country.
A total of 2, 000 French soldiers have been deployed in CAR so far to help restore order.
Incoming French president Emmanuel Macron was starting to build his centrist government Tuesday, with his former Socialist boss jockeying for position in a radically changed political landscape.
Macron, 39, was elected France's youngest-ever president on Sunday, crushing far-right leader Marine Le Pen after a bruising campaign that left France's traditional parties by the wayside.
He faces a huge task to unite a fractured, anxious country and to win a parliamentary majority in June's general election, without which he could struggle to implement his ambitious reform agenda. His victory at the head of a year-old pro-EU movement that has presented itself as a home for progressives of all stripes has blown up France's long-standing left-right political divide.
On Tuesday, former Socialist prime minister Manuel Valls - a failed candidate for his party's presidential nomination - said he wanted to run for parliament on Macron's ticket.
"The Socialist Party is dead, it is behind us," Valls, a reform-minded prime minister from 2014 to 2016 when Macron was economy minister, told RTL radio.
"I will be candidate for the presidential majority and I wish to join the list [of candidates] of his movement," Valls said, while insisting that he remained a Socialist and "a man of the left."
Macron's newly renamed "Republique en Marche" (the Republic on the Move) movement reacted warily to the announcement.
Macron's campaign spokesperson Christophe Castaner said Valls "had a good chance" of being accepted into the fold but that he had to submit an official application.
Macron has promised to rejuvenate France's jaded governing class.
He has said that half of his candidates for the 577 seats in the National Assembly will be new to politics.
The rest will be defectors from the Socialists and right-wing Republicans and members of Macron's movement and the allied centrist Modem party.
Macron has said the defectors can keep their existing party membership and still run on his parliamentary ticket.
France's next leader, who will be inaugurated on Sunday taking over from Socialist President Francois Hollande, has yet to name his prime minister.
BANGKOK, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- The ruling Thai military reassured on Wednesday that a new government under premiership of top ruler Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha will effectually fight red tape and corruption in the government sectors.
Air force chief ACM Prajin Juntong, who is concurrently in charge of economic affairs on behalf of the National Council for Peace and Order, the official name of the military junta who seized power from a civilian government in the May 22 coup, said that the non-elected government under command of the strongman- turned-premier will combat the bureaucratic red tape and possible corruption among government personnel.
He told Thai and foreign businesspersons at a Bangkok seminar entitled "Reforming for Thailand's Sustainable Growth" that the new government will promptly take steps to rid all government agencies of red tape and graft as part of the much-heralded national reform bids.
"The government will fight corruption and red tape which may have occurred at any government unit or state firm where respective investment projects will be definitely implemented by schedule and in a transparent fashion.
"Anything which might possibly bring about undue gains and malpractice in government will be entirely eradicated," ACM Prajin said.
He said that the country is being steered in the course of sustainable economic growth under the ruling military's roadmap set as an aftermath of the bloodless coup.
According to the air chief marshal, Thailand's economic growth will register at 2 percent throughout this year and is forecast to rise to 3.5 to 4 percent next year.
He said the economic growth obviously suffered a decline during this year's first and second quarters largely due to political unrest, which eventually prompted the powerful military to seize power from deposed premier Yingluck Shinawatra.
He commented that Gen. Prayuth is merely heading an interim government pending a nationwide election which, he said, will be held late next year or early in 2016 or as soon as the making of a "permanent" constitution has been finished.
Meanwhile, according to ACM Prajin, tipped to assume a ministerial post in the Prayuth cabinet, the interim government will see to it that:
- Infrastructural projects will be implemented, such as the construction of double-tracked railways in all parts of the country as well as aviation development plans to turn Thailand into a hub of the ASEAN Economic Community's regional logistics and transports.
- Investment projects in the energy sector will be promoted in the interests of varied industrial projects with primary concerns over environmenta.
